The Best Canning Jar Uses
I never imagined all the creative things to do with jars. The more ideas for mason jars that I find on the internet, the more interested I become in finding new mason jar uses. I’ll be scouring the internet looking for as much information as I can find on what to do with mason jars. I’ll be writing in my blog about all the unique and creative Mason jar ideas that I find.
I never thought about what to do with mason jars until I started fermenting vegetables and making kefir milk last year. I love different types of food, so I’ll definitely be looking up recipes for canning and fermenting. After running across all the other Mason jar ideas on the web, I just had an overwhelming curiosity to know what other mason jar uses I could benefit from. Out of all the things to do with jars, I think I’m most interested in the crafts and hope to find some great ones to do with the kids.
The possibilities for storage, arts and crafts are endless and imagining what to do with mason jars can keep my mind busy for hours at a time. I can’t even begin to tell you about all the ideas for mason jars that are out there. I have found so many different things to do with jars that I imagine it taking me years to uncover all the ideas for mason jars. Canning and food preservation are among the most prominent of all the mason jar uses. You can find information and resources for different methods of food preservation on Wikipedia and at the National Center for Home Food Preservation. There are also some great social media groups for fermenting vegetables and fruit. I’ll be adding pages of more extensive information as I come across it in my research.
There are many different brands, sizes, colors and mason jar designs to choose from. I will briefly go over some of these options although I’m only touching the surface of what’s out there. Some options are clearly personal preference, like mason jar designs and color. There are often specialty jars of different colors and mason jar designs available, especially around the holidays and springtime.
I’ll start below with general mason jar company information, styles, and sizes. I know I don’t have every mason jar company, style and size listed, but I will continue to add them as I find out more. I am new to all of this and on a mission to find out as much information on each mason jar company as I can.
Find Canning Jars
Ball Canning Company, founded in 1880 turned over canning jar production in 1993, to the Jarden Corporation. The Jarden Corporation (Jarden Home Brands) produces the Ball preserving jars, Kerr canning jars and Bernardin canning jars. You can read about Ball jar company history on the Ball website. Their canning jars have two mouth options to choose from, regular or wide. Both have the option of a screw on metal lid and band or a plastic storage cap.

Bormioli Rocco canning jars are produced by a manufacturer founded in 1825 in Fidenza, Italy. They make several different glass products, but we’ll stick with the jars. You can choose between their Bormioli Rocco canning jars , with a screw on metal lid or their Fido hermetic jars with a hinge top and replaceable rubber gaskets.
Global Amici canning jars are produced by a manufacturer founded in San Diego, California, established in 1982. They produce a variety of canning jars and several other household products. You can read about their company at the Global Amici website. They have a variety of styles, between their Global Amici canning jars with screw-on metal lid and hermetic jars with hinged top and silicone gasket.

Kilner canning jars are produced by the Rayware Group of England in the 1840’s. You can read about their company history at the Kilner website. They make preserve jars with screw on metal seals and bands and clip top jars with a hinged top and replaceable rubber seals.

Le Parfait canning jars are produced by a manufacturer founded in Reims, France in the 1930’s. You can read about their company history at the Le Parfait website. They also have a great jar manufacturing video showing how they make their jars. You can choose between their canning jars, with a screw on metal lid and replaceable sealing caps (opened with a key), or their hermetic jars with a hinged top and replaceable rubber gaskets.
